We are watching the progress of this game. As it’s an indie game heavily inspired with The Guardian Legend. Author considers the feedback from people and improves the game. Steel Seraph is becoming better with time.
Take a look at the recent video showing some gameplay from the current game state.
Author is very responsive. So if you have a feedback for him then go contact. He will listen! There is definitely a lot of room for improvement. And feedback from players is the best help to find weak spots and improve.
Through years there were so much of Videogames remastered mockups created by artists. Some of them makes wonder why it is not an actual game? The answer is simple if you are in the game industry. It is over-saturated. So it’s hard to put something in between thousands of great games.
But anyway. Just wanted to share some examples of nice mockups.
First goes Super Mario Bros 2 by likelikes
https://www.deviantart.com/likelikes/art/Super-Mario-Bros-2-487611123 There are tons and tons of art done for Super Mario universe, including mockups. So there is not much to say about it. Except that it is for unusual Super Mario game. And the reason is that Super Mario Bros 2 is not really a Super Mario game. It is reskin of the Doki Doki Panic game. Tho it was heavily inspired by Super Mario, but it was not exactly the Super Mario game.
Mockup looks really cute. The author has plently of game redrawings similar to this and some other styles.
My favorite is Turrican II by jnkboy
https://www.deviantart.com/jnkboy/art/Turrican-II-428563537 Looks very stylish. Great drawing technique. I imagine it to be a Keyboard+Mouse control. Where player has 360 degree full control over the direction to shoot. The author is a great artist if you are curious. He is good not only at pixel art, but at full illustrations. He has some more game mockups. For example this downgrade Bayonetta 2D Shmup
Ducktales Remastered by Simon S. Andersen
https://twitter.com/snakepixel/status/445292770836500480 This is how a great sequel could look on PC or 16 bit console back in 90’s. Great drawing skills with care. Uncle scrooge looks as he should in a great 16 bit game. This is the author of Owlboy game by the way. So it’s no wonder this looks so good.
He also posted animated mockup of Megaman recently. it looks very nice, but I don’t like Megaman‘s standing pose. And maybe his proportions could be tweaked a bit. However the art style and colors look gorgeous. Have a look at the video with the animation:
Lets have a look at Blaster Master Zero 2. A sequel to Blaster Master Zero. This time with traveling between planets. It looks great. Has many weapons and upgrades. Funny thing with charging your tank with fall down from bigger height. Tho the guy coming out of the tank seems to die too easy when fall down from a height that’s not looking so big.
I am sure everyone here thinking the same thing. That’s what also could be done with The Guardian Legend ?? Hahaha!(hiding crying) Who knows if this ever happens, but yeah. By the way, if you did not know, there is fan made sequel Guardian Legend: Shadow of Naju. It’s not that professional as BMZ2, but it’s not bad at all, I liked it.

Rygar on NES was one of those games that felt like entire another world. It felt really big at that time. Great mysterious atmosphere and exploration feeling. Ed Findlay trying to create some kind of Rygar remake or sequel. He called it Rygar Vengeance and it can be found on his site https://www.retrogamer3.com/ . In case site not works he also has his youtube channel.
At the time I write this the game is beta version 1.4. Below I post some screenshots. And the only short gameplay I found is in the Ed’s youtube teaser video 3 years ago. I’ll post it below screenshots.
The Guardian Legend NES Commercial (1989) found on old VHS. How is this look for you? I have never seen this commercial in the game reviews. Channel owner says it was aired on KCAL 9 California in 1989. Good thing he(or someone) recorded it!
The Guardian Legend NES review by SNESdrunk. Video. Thanks to channels like this the game did not went to abyss yet. And new players have a chance to know about this NES gem. It probably deserves to be in top-10 NES games.
Some people wonder. What are some games that are similar to?The Guardian Legend? So suddenly I discovered such game. It’s on FDS(Famicom Disc System) and it’s called – Akuu Senki RAIJIN. I would say it’s more similar to predecessor – Guardic. If you did not know The Guardian Legend is actually a sequel to Guardic. It even has a name like “Another Legend of Guardic” in manual. And some Japanese fan arts put ALG on their arts.
As I understood player can can decide to transform between mecha and starship. But it’s possible only on certain platforms. Player can fly in all 4 directions and walk also in 4 directions. So he can’t walk diagonally.
I do not know the details because I just discovered this game. I was browsing youtube for recent The Gaurdian Legend videos and luckily there was video “The Guardian Legend But Worse”. Sometimes people asking what are the games similar to?The Guardian Legend? So this might be really interesting as this game is similar to both TGL and Guardic(prequel of TGL).
I would say that the game looks nice. But the gameplay seems not really good. I also think that it would be hard to understand what to do in the game and how to progress. There is no map to help. Maybe there is some helpful manual comes with the disc? Necessary instructions often contained in manuals back then . Music is almost always the same and there is no boss theme when the bosses appear.
However the game doesn’t seem terribly bad. So that’s it, this is the similar game, please welcome –?Akuu Senki RAIJIN
Hey guys! This seems to be The Guardian Legend best speedrun so far. 52:24
If you looking for the gameplay tactics then this can be good guide.
Also you might see some tricks. Like skiping the transform animation by holding select. He dies to get back to some point faster.
The Guardian Legend Legacy stream recently played by some russian guy. If you did not know about that project then you can see what it is. I am not sure if they keep doing it because I am away from russian social network VKontakte.
In that game you can choose your primary weapon and your subweapon. The walking stages are randomly generated. So each time you start a new game it will have different map.
If you want to annoy author and tell him to continue the work then here is his youtube channel.
And here is this project page on facebook. You can find the download link there.
